Bump mapping support for eyeshot materials

Hello.

As far as I've seen, the Material class Eyeshot provides allows adding only one texture image, the color texture one (apart from the environmental map, which is most likely used to produce decent reflections at a rather cheap computational cost).

I would be interested, however, in the possibility to assign multiple images to the same material, in particular one for color and another one, in black & white, for bump mapping, to simulate wrinkles. As far as I've looked through the Material class available constructors, there is no such thing. This would greatly help me in achieving highly detailed materials without needing to actually increase the polygon density for that. Another step forward would be to also allow more texture layers, apart from the color one and the bump map one. Specularity maps, transparency maps, and glossiness maps are examples of such texture layers - they could also help improve the overall quality and realism of rendered objects.

The most useful one of them all is, by far, the bump map texture, so it would be great if the Material class could support that in the future.

  • Actually something really approaching PBR Shaders would be a blast.
Might one hope, that "Twins separation" from your roadmap might lead up to that / better shader support?

  • I also would greatly appreciate a little more investment in improving the realism we can achieve in our renderings. Especially metal parts are a bit difficult to get to look realistic. Apart from that, being able to add bump map textures to our materials would also be a very welcome addition!
